These days I use my Facebook page for info about gigs and recordings. However, you can always check out the blog on WordPress for ramblings on music and the occasional music demo on Soundcloud.
ARCHIVED NEWS
January 25, 2016 - The album Sounds Of In-Between is now available on Bandcamp. Due to the much fairer and frankly simpler deal for artists through Bandcamp, I've decided for the moment to use these folks instead of the usual distribution route through the likes of iTunes and Amazon, although Midday Sun is still available through these channels. From the blurb on the site "Bandcamp makes it easy for fans to directly connect with and support the artists they love. We treat music as art, not content, and we tie the success of our business to the success of the artists who we serve... We continue to work tirelessly to build an enduring service, one that treats artists fairly, puts them in control, and is integral to them building sustainable careers. This approach has earned us our most valuable asset: trust. More than anything else, the trust of artists everywhere is what makes Bandcamp work today, and it’s what will make Bandcamp grow far into the future". Sounds good enough for me!
December 1, 2014 - My new album, Sounds Of In-Between, has been mastered and mixed, and will be released through iTunes and in a limited CD run. As the title might suggest, this album is the result of my research into the idea of liminality, or a state of 'in-between' in music, so don't expect the usual pop affair, this continues a life long interest in those moments in music where, as Robyn Jarman put it, your mind is hijacked to "imaginings of cities in the clouds". It's a little ambient, a little psychedelic and more than a little trancey - in fact it may even be a little transcendant! As a departure from my usual material I'm quite proud of how it came together, as I had to completely rethink my approach to sound - you could look at it more as a layering of sounds, textures and rhythms. Look out for the official release some time in the new year.
July 11, 2013 - It's finished! The new album for Linton Jones, Embracing Time, has had its final mixes and is set to be mastered by Don Bartley at Benchmark Mastering. The eight track album is Linton's exploration of a number of themes based on time, using arrangements utilising piano, lush vocal harmonies, fiddle, flute, mandolin, piano, organ, guitars and drums. It sounds great and I'm looking forward to hearing Don's magic making it something extra special.
Jan 2013 - I'm currently working on the final recordings in my project studio for an album by Linton Jones (lintonjones.com) that's sounding really nice. Linton is an acoustic artist with a great voice that carries a lot of emotion, so he's a joy to work with. It's been heaps of fun and gives me an opportunity to try out a few different instruments! Stay tuned for more installments...
Jan 2012 - I'm currently setting up my music studio for music tuition in the upper Blue Mountains. Tuition will be for guitar (electric and acoustic), bass guitar and drums - styles covered include classical, pop, rock and folk. There are a limited number of places, so if interested in learning any one of these instruments, call me on 02 4782 1424 for more information.
I should also mention that I now have a project recording studio available for small to medium recording projects. If you'd like to record a high quality demo, or a more ambitious project at very reasonable hourly rates, drop me a line at info@peterlong.com.au
The Ashram Poets debut album has also finally been released, written in conjunction with my good friend Greg Vincent. Entitled Corpios, the first single from it is Seize, with an accompanying video which you can see here. We're quite proud of it, be sure to check it out at www.ashrampoets.com
Check out my Facebook page for more up to date info on what I'm up to... until next...
